Ok, most of you know that I work in a doctor's office. So let me share with you a few things that just make me scream! First of all, there is a reason you are given paperwork to fill out- we are not your family doctor, we are a specialist office so therefore, we know nothing about you or your medical history. Believe it or not it is important we know your medical history. We do not ask you those questions because we are nosy people, nor can we read your mind. Trust me, I really wished we could, it would be so helpful.
Next, do you know how many different medications exist? Telling me that you take a little white pill doesn't cut it. I DO NOT KNOW what little white pill you are talking about!!! I could guess if only you knew why you took that little white pill. UGH!!!!
Next, the pleasant lady that checks you in, be nice to her. She can't help that you have a co-pay or a deductible. Please know that when you go to the doctor you are expected to pay your co-pay - Read your policy!!! She, unfortunately, is not a mind reader either. She is not responsible for the doctor being late or behind, so giving her grief is just wrong. Also we are not a bank, must you bring a $100 bill to pay a $20 co-pay?
Next, when you call the doctor's office please do not expect us to know who you are just by your voice. You should always give your name and then why you are calling. Knowing who you are will help tremendously. If you want a medication refill - please know what you want a refill of. Again the little white pill just doesn't cut it. Then if the doctor says you can not have a refill on pain meds, HELLO don't yell at me. I didn't say no, the doctor did. There is always a nice way to say everything. Yelling at me will get you no where.
And then......as the clinical assistant, neither am I responsible for the doctor being late or behind. I can only move as fast as he does. If you are upset with the doctor - TELL THE DOCTOR!!! It is his practice. He is the one that is late or behind. I don't like it anymore than you do. Please do not fuss, cuss or attack me and then turn on the charm for the doctor. You MUST know that I am telling the doctor about your OUTBURST before he comes into the room. At that point you have certainly lost any respect that I may have had for you. UGHHH! You make it really hard for me to be nice to you, but I will be nice because that's me.
Please, please, please do us all (including other patients) a favor, take a bath. And don't wear overpowering cologne, nasty!
Remember, behind every good doctor is a GREAT office staff!!!
